Jasmine Shimoda
Jasmine and Sharky met in NYC while blazing their paths through the NYC culinary scene. Jasmine in kitchens such as Chanterelle, Park Avenue Restaurant, Aldea, and Morimoto, eventually becoming Sous chef to April Bloomfield at the John Dory and Executive Chef of the acclaimed tasting menu restaurant Degustation in the East Village. Sharky set roots in the Jean-George and McNally empires, running the dining rooms of iconic restaurants such as Spice Market, Pastis, and Balthazar London. They were both consumed by a hunger for excellence and pushed themselves to the limit to achieve it, often sacrificing their health and well-being in the process. Eventually, they started thinking more big-picture about work; life, and happiness and how they could make a difference. The amount of excess and waste they witnessed in the restaurant industry started to become oppressive and they grew tired of using their talents to serve only the small percentage of people that could afford to eat at their restaurants.
They decided to move to California and build a business where they could use their experience and talents to bring joy to more people in a sustainable way! Jewel opened February 1st of 2018 in Silver Lake LA and the neighborhood rejoiced! Jewel proudly serves the community not just healthy, but DELICIOUS and INSPIRED food.
